Meals On Wheels holds 45th annual
Volunteer Appreciation /Recognition Night Program
Meal on Wheels of Greater Hazleton’s Board of Directors held its 45th annual Volunteer Appreciation/ Recognition Night on April, 27th at St. John Bosco parish hall, Conyngham, to kickoff their only public fundraising campaign
Board Committee program Co-Chairs Melanie Pensock and Cathy Olhanoski welcomed over 70 Volunteers, past and present board members and guests. After a moving invocation by Fr. Ric Polmounter, Hors d’oevres, desserts and light refreshments were available.
As a special highlight the Tin Roof Brass Band provided musical entertainment throughout the evenings program.
The board of directors honored and acknowledged the volunteers of the areas only daily fresh food delivery program and their dedication to our community. Throughout the year including holiday meal deliveries on Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day and Easter Sunday, the volunteers braved a severe winter, and did all they could to provide a few minutes of care and attention to our neighbors, friends, and families. The program was an opportunity to thank them and recognize all they have done.
Anita Masteller, Executive Director acknowledged the newest volunteers Marisa Drake, Julian Smith and Victoria Wisniewski and hopes they will enjoy many years of volunteer service with Meals On Wheels.
Along with Food Coordinator Carmella Tokach, Masteller presented gifts, prizes and awards including certificates for milestone years of service to:

Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton staff and nutrition services and MOW volunteer Joan Coll were acknowledged for their time and commitment to the continued success of Meals on Wheels.
Melanie Pensock and Cathy Olhanoski, Committee Co-Chairs, were assisted by Board of Directors committee members, Jim Buyarski, Susan Byorek, , Judy Lagana, Marge Mattioli, Remo Molino, Elaine Mussoline Joe O’Donnell, Kathryn Pavone , Fr. Ric Polmounter , Bob Shanno, Carol Toslosky, Atty. Angel Mae Zola.
The Board would like to thank the following area sponsors for providing over 40 door prizes, gifts or donations for the program: Applebee’s, Beltway Diner, Bowl Arena, St. John Bosco’s parish, Dunkin’ Donuts, Deli in the Dairy, Famous Salon & Spa, Fellin’s, Five Star Chinese Restaurant, From Head To Toe, Goulds, GreenLeaf Productions/ GreenLeaf Gallery and Gift Shop , Heights Terrace Pharmacy, John’s Church Hill Family Restaurant, the Ovalon, Senape’s Bakery, Stephanie’s Greens ‘N Things, Subway, Sugarloaf Golf Club, Via Nuova Pizzeria & Restaurant, Wendy’s, Weiss, White Birch Golf, YMCA/YWCA, and the Valley Country Club.
Tricky Trays and private donations to assist in the celebration were received from M/M Earl Berger, Rowlands Sales Co, Atty Louis Mattioli III, Joseph Zoba, St John Bosco parishioners, Board members and several anonymous individuals.
Hazleton’s Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered nearly 18,000 meals on 259 days in 2017 and since it’s beginning in 1972, has delivered over 1.52 million meals and logged over 61,000 volunteer hours of service. Executive Director Anita Masteller noted that Meals on Wheels of Greater Hazleton is a United Way agency, and a Chamber of Commerce member, and was the only N.E. PA meal delivery program that did not cancel deliveries for weather related reasons to their clients in Hazleton, West Hazleton, Hazle Township, and the valley areas of Sugarloaf, Conyngham and Drums in 2017.
