If it isn’t snowing right now—wait a few hours! In this Winter that won’t go away, chances are pretty good it will be soon.
If  you’ve picked up your Milk-bread-and egg survival kit ( or in Hazleton Senapes box pitz, Farmers Ice Tea and Tastykakes) you’re prepared to wait out the next storm.
But some people will head right into that storm, and it’s to those amazing people I want to say Thank You.
As the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Greater Hazleton, I have personally seen near heroic efforts these past few weeks and months, in every neighborhood as Mother Nature dealt us some pretty bad hands.
I witnessed Police officers braving white out conditions, 30 mile an hour winds and freezing temperatures to divert traffic from dangerous road conditions and disabled vehicles. I’ve seen strangers helping each other who then found themselves slipping and sliding and ultimately stuck.
Our snow plow operators kept working day and night to clear our roads , sanitation workers continued their operations, postal workers completed their routes, EMS and first responders were at the ready. Amazing.
Thank You. We all think it. Honestly, most of us are glad it isn’t us out there, and we mean to say it, but somehow never get to do so. Thank You.
On a personal note, I want to thank my Volunteer drivers, and the LVH-H staff and  nutrition services, for their dedication and
unwavering support to make sure we were able to be there for those who count on us as they have for the past 45 years! And a special thank you to our community for each and every donation in support of Meals on Wheels so we can continue another 45 years.
Springtime is right around the corner-at least that’s what’s printed on the calendar -but this is Hazleton, and if you’ve been here long enough you may be shaking your head right now and thinking “we’ll see”.
When the warmer weather arrives we will begin our clean up and start to reacquaint ourselves with our neighbors, but I want to remind you to show your support to those who got us through this winter and promise to be there in the future.
Oh, while you are reading this, remember all the people who worked through it all to compose, edit, print, and deliver this newspaper so you can stay informed while you look out the window and wonder when or if that calendar is right. I know I will.
